MARRY ME QUEENSCLIFF
Why should couples consider getting married in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale?
There has never been a more exciting time to celebrate the love between two people. In late 2017, the Borough of Queenscliffe council waived permit fees for weddings in outdoor public spaces. It’s an initiative that’s been very well received by couples who seek a relaxed ceremony on the beach or in a parkland setting. Some of our most popular locations have incredible views and we encourage all couples to pop down for a visit and see for themselves. Our website features an interactive map of all locations plus a gallery of images from previous weddings. It’s well worth a look.
What makes Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale so enticing as wedding destinations?
Location, location of course! Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale are not only known for their spectacular coastlines but for their reputation for quality dining experiences, open spaces, history and heritage. The towns provide couples from all walks of life and all tastes and budgets with a range of venues and ceremony locations that truly capture the essence of seaside romance.
What sets it apart from other coastal areas?
It’s unique in that it combines heritage streetscapes with the teal coloured waters of Port Phillip Bay, Swan Bay and Bass Strait. It’s a wedding photographer’s paradise with our iconic piers, rugged coastline and century old architecture. Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale’s proximity to Geelong and Melbourne as well as the Mornington Peninsula make accessibility, travel time and availability of accommodation well suited to family and friends who delight in a weekend escape by the sea.

At Shortland’s Bluff, next to the iconic Queenscliff Fort, there is a large grassy space that overlooks the ocean and the Queenscliff Pier. This is one of the most popular locations for an outdoor wedding. On the Point Lonsdale side, the views across Port Phillip Heads and across to Point Nepean are simply breathtaking. Many wedding ceremonies have taken place next to the Point Lonsdale pier and you only have to look at the images that appear on Instagram to see how beautiful this spot is. Tucked away behind Queenscliff Primary School is the Swan Bay Lookout and this serene body of water makes for a beautiful wedding backdrop. Called Swan Bay for a reason, during summer and early autumn, more than 2500 elegant black swans call this place home. A late afternoon or sunset wedding overlooking Swan Bay is something you and your guests will never forget.
What can couples who are hoping to get married on the beach enjoy?
Hopefully good weather and low tide! Tides are important when looking at a beach wedding so don’t forget to factor that in when planning your ceremony. On a fine day, not only can the bride and groom and guests feel the sand between their toes and enjoy the sound of waves lapping at the shore, but it’s not uncommon to see ships passing through the heads on their way to and from Melbourne, it’s an amazing sight. There’s something simple and natural about a beach wedding and as Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale is bound by sea on three sides, couples really are spoilt for choice.
