Tell us about the business.
Blondie is co-owned by Rebeccah Vivian and Kate Priddle and was born in 2011, at the time there was nothing else here like it. Our success is due to our team, a carefully curated group of the region’s top colourists, hairstylists and makeup artists each bringing something unique. We have garnered the attention of many social media influencers that call Blondie their go-to for all things beauty. As colourists we are known for our seamless colour blends and fresh clean blondes, but we colour in every shade and do lots of hair extensions. The salon opened the doors to its incredible Ryrie Street shopfront, designed by Julia Green in 2018.
What makes Blondie stand out?
Our ethos is to help every bride achieve a wedding look that is uniquely them, but a more polished version. Our style is relaxed and a little more editorial than overdone glam. We will travel to wherever our brides request, we have even travelled internationally to accommodate brides. Each of our super talented team of hair stylists and makeup artists has their own unique style, but the work we all produce has a similarity – giving our brides confidence to have any of our team creating their look. As we are in our beautiful new space, more brides are choosing to come into the salon to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and ambience. We offer a wide variety on our drinks menu, including yummy Baie wines.
What makes a Blondie bride?
We want our Blondie brides to have a calming, positive and memorable experience, our team works with you to personalise and develop the perfect look for you, to ensure that you not only love the look today but for years to come. Our team likes to push the boundaries of traditional bridal, taking a more modern approach and, in turn, that is the brides we tend to attract.
Is there a popular look brides are asking for?
The majority of the brides we see want to look fresh and natural, requesting to wear their hair down with beautiful silky, soft, shiny waves. We will generally put some type of “hair help” into this style, most of us are not blessed with luscious locks. We always carry a myriad of clip-in hair extensions in our kits that we can add to create a fuller look. Adding in extensions helps the longevity of the style. We also hire these extensions to minimise costs for brides instead of having to purchase a set. For eye makeup think rusts, coppers and oranges – everyone is getting a little more adventurous with a warm eye, beautiful thick lashes but not too long, and keeping the skin naturally glowy without the foundation too thick, peachy flush on the cheeks and natural rose gold highlighting.
Leading up to the big day what do you offer?
We offer Lonvitalite silk sheet face masks and lip and eye masks which can be applied prior to having your makeup done. These little gems can combat a variety of things and specific masks will be suggested for your condition if required. Jess from Illume Body works out of our Ryrie Street store and specialises in bridal party spray tans using the best product on the market, Spray Aus. Another pre-wedding suggestion would be to look into having eyebrow feathering if you are lacking in the eyebrow department or even a bit of brow rehab to try and regain fullness. We stock Lou Lou Lips, a gorgeous lipstick range available for our brides to purchase so they have their perfect lip colour to touch up. Alternatively we also offer our clients a convenient sample pot and disposable lip brush of the lip colour we have used in their makeup service.
What do you love about being part of a bride’s big day?
There is nothing more rewarding than watching a bride slip into her dress after we have finished her glam. That nervous excitement they are experiencing, knowing they are about to walk down the aisle and lock eyes with the love of their life and for that one intimate moment there will be no one else in the room. Knowing that we played a small part in that gives us butterflies. Being privy to a bridal party of besties laughing, sharing and sometimes crying is the best, you leave on a high.
