Emerald Oliverio and Chris Martin needed to look no further than their own wardrobes for their wedding attire.
Emerald found Chris’ powder blue suit in an op shop for $5, which he wore to various 70s themed parties before tying the knot, and her own wedding gown for $20.
This was a theme followed through and executed beautifully for the ‘trash to treasure wedding’, with the Point Lonsdale pair working tirelessly to source second-hand items and breathe new life into them for their January 11 wedding.
They collected mismatched plates from antique and op shops to use as placemats for the wedding crockery inside their barn reception.
Friend Elise Renzenbrink hand-stitched the linen invitations, Emerald sewed the boys’ ties from recycled fabric, and the pair worked tirelessly to convert the old stables at Suma Park into a suitable reception venue to entertain their 96 guests.
Chris, a carpenter, and a family friend cleaned out the stables, pressure-washed walls, cleared out birds and laid down compressed earth flooring.
“Nobody else had been married there before us so we felt very lucky,” Emerald says.
While she agrees the couple pulled off their budget wedding tastefully, she giggles as she indulges her one big splurge – her gorgeous Christian Louboutin heels.
“They were my little fairytale touch,” she smiles.
