It was love at first sight when Edwina Weddell and Tom Waters met in maths class at Geelong College in 2001.
The high school sweethearts returned to the school courtyard 12 years later on April 13 to tie the knot in front of 240 guests.
Edwina, a fashion designer for Kookai, put her skills to use by designing her gorgeous Elie Saab-inspired gown.
She also designed the white bridesmaid’s dresses, and as a personal touch, hand-stitched the beading on each of them.
Tom, who proposed to Edwina over a candlelit dinner at their home, looked dapper in a suit by P.Johnson Tailors and striking black bow tie.
Edwina’s sister and maid of honour Charlotte and the wedding’s youngest guest, however, almost didn’t make it to the special day. Charlotte’s newborn baby Audrey was born four days before the wedding and, due to an infection, was released from hospital only hours before the reception.
“It was a very emotional week for both my sister and I,” Edwina says.
“Charlotte was the last appointment at the hairdresser, and her husband Eddie brought Audrey to the ceremony wearing a dress they bought at the hospital chemist.”
The couple chose Edwina’s family’s property in Ceres for their reception, where guests enjoyed drinks and canapés, followed by dinner and a night of dancing.
