The pair met in high school while Marco was on exchange from Italy, but didn’t reconnect until years later when he returned to Australia after university.
“One day Marco called me and that was it – we clicked,” Megan remembers fondly.
“Much to my surprise, he got one of his friends to pretend he had to drop off a gift from him, but it turned out it was Marco waiting outside my door!
He swept me off my feet from then on.”
There was no proposal in their love story – instead Megan and Marco one night openly decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. They quickly chose Italy as the perfect destination for their nuptials.
The pair parted way with tradition by spending their last night together before their wedding, and got ready together on the morning of their big day.
“We also had lunch with our families, and were so relaxed we almost forgot that we had to hurry up and go and get ready,” Marco says.
“It was lovely to see my beautiful wife-to-be getting
They chose the local town hall in Marco’s mother’s hometown of Chiavenna to say their “I dos”, where they were married in an intimate ceremony by the Mayor of Chiavenna in front of 45 loved ones.
After walking down the aisle together, Megan and Marco strolled the cobblestoned streets of the beautiful country town with their photographer to capture their first moments as newlyweds, with locals taking their turn to congratulate the happy pair.
Their reception followed at the breathtaking 18th century heritage building, Palazzo Salis, where table settings were made up of flowers and ferns picked by the couple and their families.
“We spent the morning making them, with little Campari bottles as vases, with Dad tying the twine on the bottles, Marco’s Nonna preparing the ferns, and Marco, Mum and I arranging the flowers and ferns,” Megan says.
“It was special to have handmade touches and the reception room was so ornate that we didn’t want to detract from the beauty of it.”
