“As we sat down at the bridal table for the first time, among everything happening around us, I remember staring and smiling at Alby – we had made it, married and were at our reception,” Caitlin remembers.
“I remember this so vividly and our beautiful photographer captured the moment perfectly.”
The pair, who met through their families, made it official when Alby popped the question on a cruise ship in front of their loved ones on New Year’s Eve.
“Alby got down on one knee and proposed in front of our family and friends – it was one of the most amazing, special nights we have all shared together,” Caitlin says.
Caitlin and Alby chose the lush garden setting of Gladioli Restaurant for their December wedding – which turned out to be a scorching 38-degree day.
Caitlin, who wore a stunning sweetheart gown by Fairytale Bridal which perfectly matched her flowing blonde curls, walked down the aisle to This Will Be An Everlasting Love by Natalie Cole and Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran.
An arbour with chic white curtains tied back with classic white blooms was an backdrop for the romantic ceremony.
Choosing to showcase the fruits of the region to their 130 guests, Caitlin and Chris then moved from their garden ceremony to a beach reception in the
Hopetoun Room at The Pier.
“Gladioli offered a country, garden feel ceremony location followed by our reception at The Pier where guests were witness to a magnificent sunset over Eastern Beach.”
Special touches included personalised chocolates, a dessert buffet in place of a cake and large, light-up letters spelling out ‘Love’.
Calligraphy lettering on the seating chart and classic floral combinations complemented the gorgeous white furniture, with metallic vases and tealight candles enhancing the dreamy mood.
While Alby admits his bride did most of the planning in the lead-up to their special day, he contributed his own touch by handcrafting a beautiful wishing box for the reception.
“Caitlin did an amazing job putting everything together and the day was proof of that,” Alby says.
“We wanted the day to be enjoyable and special for not only ourselves but our friends and family.”
After a perfect day, Caitlin’s advice for brides-to be is to take some time out with your new husband to soak it all up.
“Forget about the stress and don’t worry about anyone else – the planning of a wedding doesn’t last forever but the memories do,” she says.
“It’s important to take the time to enjoy that feeling.”
The pair honeymooned in Europe and America.
