Q&A WITH KRISTY WYNACK FROM EMBRACE BRIDAL BOUTIQUE
How did you get into the bridal industry?
The idea began last year when I myself was looking for a wedding dress. I found it really hard to find, and during the hunt I thought ‘Why not bring more options to Geelong for some brides-to-be who might also be finding it hard?’ My husband Paul and I had wanted to open our own business and I have always loved this industry.
What do you love about helping women find their perfect gown?
Buying a wedding dress is one on the most important and emotional purchases a bride will make. It is an honour to be a part of that special journey. When you see that look in a bride’s eye when she sees herself in “her” dress… it’s priceless.
Is there a standout experience so far?
To us, every bride we see is special. We love our brides and all our appointments are wonderful, fun and special.

Tell us about the people behind the business and how you work together.
I have an amazing team that works very hard to ensure each bride’s experience is wonderful. Our amazing team including Bev, Sarah, Holli and Kelly all bring different and great experience to our store. They are passionate, caring and beautiful women who love the boutique as much as I do. There is also my husband Paul working behind the scenes – we are constantly discussing the direction of the business and how to present our brand, and it’s great to get a different perspective on day-to-day operations.
Which labels do you stock?
We have US brand Allure and Spanish designer Rosa Clara. Allure has many sublabels including Allure Romance, Allure Women and Madison James, and offers choices for any budget and styles suitable for brides of all ages. Because of its European roots, Rosa Clara features fashion-forward, but still classic, designs. You’re going to see more fashion-forward designs in this range, such as the very low backs, layered textured ball gowns and crisscross backs.
Why is it important to have the right person to help you find your gown?
This could be different for different people, but I think it is extremely important to have a person that you feel comfortable with – someone who shows you that they care as much as you do about your dress and special day. This is such a massive purchase for brides-to-be, and I truly understand that. And it’s an emotional purchase. The only thing they’ve got on their mind is to look the best they possibly can because they’re marrying the man of their dreams. We want to help them do just that.
What’s it like behind the scenes of your business?
Behind the scenes is a little less glamorous. I am generally ordering and doing the bookwork. I’m also constantly looking at which fashions are in style, and staying upto- date with what is happening in the market. We look at various advertising campaigns and plan for gowns and products at least six months ahead. Paul comes on buying trips with me – it’s always nice to have another person’s opinion.
Our region is brimming with talent. What do you love about collaborating with other suppliers?
Since opening in Geelong, we have found other suppliers to be so supportive. It is a community and we all just want to help each other achieve and do their best. Promoting and recommending one another only helps each other’s business thrive. We have such a great network of suppliers in Geelong and we need to keep it that way.
